You Don't Have to Be Okay All the Time
Motherhood can be beautiful and difficult at the same time. Making space for your emotions is part of caring for yourself.
You don't have to perform happiness
There is a particular kind of pressure that can come with motherhood: everyone expects you to be happy.
You have the baby. You should be grateful. You should be enjoying every moment.
But real life is more complicated than that.
You can be grateful for your child and still need a break. You can love your family and still feel lonely. You can be excited about the future and still have difficult days.
Check in with yourself
When was the last time someone asked how you were doing and actually waited for the honest answer?
Try asking yourself the same question.
- How have I really been sleeping?
- How am I coping emotionally?
- Do I have someone I can talk to honestly?
- When was the last time I did something just for myself?
- Is there something I've been carrying alone?
Small acts of care count
Self-care doesn't always mean spa days and long baths. Sometimes it means eating lunch before you're starving. Sometimes it means putting your phone down for ten minutes. Sometimes it means telling someone, 'I need help today.'
The goal isn't to create a perfect wellness routine. It is to create small moments where you remember that you are a person too.
You don't have to wait for a crisis
If you have been struggling emotionally, talking to someone early can make it easier to understand what you are experiencing and decide what kind of support might help.
You deserve support even if you can't explain exactly what is wrong yet.
